My Pet has passed, it is the middle of the night – what do I do?
First, our condolences to you. This is the moment we all dread, this also is the moment we want to do everything right for our beloved pet, and many of us have not planned for this to happen right now. There is no rush to what happens next. If you want to have time to spend with your pet, and gather your family and friends to say goodbye, that is exactly right. If you want to pay for the service of having us take your pet into our care right away, that is exactly right too. We want to support your choices and honor your preferences.
For smaller animals, placing them into a pet bed, box or carrier helps make transporting them easier. Make sure to place something waterproof beneath them to protect your furniture and car. (Puppy pads or even a plastic bag will do.)
For larger pets, we have found that creating a “sling” to help move them is beneficial. You can place your pet on a sturdy blanket or sheet and hold the corners to make that sling. You will also want to put something waterproof beneath them to protect your car or home.
- Keep your pet bundled up to help make transporting them easier.
- Keeping your pet cool is helpful. A cool room in your home or use ice packs.
- Fly and bug free is important. Placing a sheet or blanket over them helps.
- Place something waterproof under your pet in your home and car.
